Frances has been creating and performing musical work since 1993.
A graduate of Melbourne University (B.Ed Music), she has a multi-disciplined approach to composition and collaboration. At Melbourne Uni she majored in jazz piano, improvisation, recording studio techniques and double bass. Over the last three years she has been working with The Dilapidated Diva, The Vardos Trio, Yetnikov, and The Oculus Trio on double bass.
Following advanced double bass study in France in 2003 with composer/bassist Francois Rabbath, Frances played in the International String Symphony in Biarritz. In 2005 she released a recording nationally in New Zealand and Australia on Shock Records with Scouthall. In 2005 she collaborated with filmmaker Natalie Woodlock on a soundtrack for an animation Grots to the Show that was screened at RMIT Gallery, ARC Queenland Biennale, Berlins Short Film Festival 2006 and the Melbourne City Library 2006 Screening Program.
In 2006 she worked with Sista She at the Adelaide Fringe and 2006 Sydney Mardis Gras, and also on Quarks’ Travel DVD on sounds and images of the East Antarctic. Frances exhibited SUBSONIC Antarctic DVD Installation at Tasmania’s Midwinter Festival throughout June 2006, at Sister Ships, Counihan Gallery In Brunswick, and exhibited works in the 2006 Tasmanian Museum Show Extreme Environment.
Recent projects include live music performance in A Plane Without Wings is a Rocket for the Women’s Circus, performing with Shoephone Trio at The Village Festival and The Falls Festival 2006, Artist in Residence for The Darebin Municipality, and Project Manager and composer of Subsonic with the Oculus String Quartet, live visuals and sound design at The Artery, Fitzroy with assistance from the City of Yarra New Work Commissions in 2007.
