Bec Matthews

Bec Beat, ParanaBec Matthews is a percussionist, performer, educator, clown, theatre maker and musical director.

Bec is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts where she studied with celebrated percussionists Barry Quinn, Sergei Golovko and John Acaro. She has worked as a freelance percussion teacher and musician across a variety of styles using her skills as a classically trained percussionist, kit player and hand percussionist.

Bec composed and co-musically directed the Women’s Circus shows Herstory (2009), The Antechamber (2007) and A Plane Without Wings is a Rocket (2006).

In 2008 she was commissioned, along with Sarah Ward and Ania Reynolds, to compose music for a Melbourne Workers Theatre show directed by Maude Davey which is set to premiere in 2011.

Her recent projects include The Spoils, Rockstrip and session kit player for Lou Bennett and the Sweet Cheeks.

Bec is currently playing drums for Circus OZ.
